THE EXCELLENCE OF THE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF PINEROLESE ON DISPLAY IN TURIN

In honour of the festivities for the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, Marmarmi has been asked to realise an artisanal masterpiece dedicated to Camillo Benso.

For the realisation of the work, the company has chosen an all-around process so as to underline the working capacity of an entire block of marble in relation to the sculptural techniques – both artistic and artisanal – and to the instruments used by the company.

The juxtaposition of three kinds of marbles of different hues, utilised to create a base for the sculpture, recalls – to a minimum extent – the symbolism that stems from the Italian flag. The bust is made to look like a faithful reproduction of the original models that date back to the existing period of the historical figure.

The bust has been made in one single material, which is also one of the three that make up the base; this, to avoid contaminating with conceptual values the purely artisanal work in its fundamental elements.

The core image that the work wants to suggest is that of a finished sculpture that develops from a base that consists of raw material.

The inferior part of the bust has been shaped following an elliptical line so as to give the work the idea of lightness and mid-air suspension, in stark contrast to the significant weight of the material that’s been utilised.
